- English; multiple-choice questions and a mandatory evidence-based written essay within the same Writing examination; paper or computer, including eligible remotely proctored delivery, subject to state and center availability.

- 120 minutes
- Passing score
- At least 8/20 on the Writing subtest and at least 2/6 on its essay on the same test date. The complete HSE battery separately requires at least 8 on each of five subtests and a combined score of at least 45; passing Writing alone does not award the credential.
