Prior passing of a currently offered exam remains part of this route; holding other endorsements does not require unnecessary retesting.
- Experience
- At least two years of relevant drilling experience under a licensed driller; document supervised work. 16 TAC §76.21(a).
- Military credit
- TDLR credits verified relevant military training and experience; examination requirements remain. 16 TAC §60.510(c), (g).
- Military fees
- State application and examination fees are waived under Texas Occupations Code §55.009.
- Military status
- Military service member or veteran; provide the military supplemental application, service-status documents and documentation of relevant military experience, service, training or education.
- Pump installer requirements
- For the installer authority, meet the pump-installation experience requirements and the General Pump Installer and applicable selected pump endorsement examinations (TX Single Phase Pump, TX Three-Phase Pump, TX Line Shaft Turbine Pump, TX Windmills, Hand Pump and Pump Jack). Those other-profession examinations are recorded as conditions in this well-driller survey.
- Score
- A passing grade is 70%; PSI eligibility is valid for one year from approval.
Recognition of an out of state license for military practice authorization
- Authorization
- This pathway authorizes practice through recognition of an existing out-of-state license; it does not issue an ordinary Texas license. Be a military service member or spouse relocated to Texas with a current similar-scope license in good standing. Apply for recognition with orders, license details, applicable marriage proof and notarized statements. TDLR performs a criminal-history review.
- Duration
- Authorization follows military orders; immediately report loss of good standing. The former-spouse exception permits continued practice until the third anniversary of the recognition application.
- Other jurisdiction
- The existing license and any examination required by its issuing jurisdiction are applicant conditions, not Texas-exam leaves.

- Answer criminal-history and disciplinary-history questions and supply the questionnaires required by the July 2026 application. TDLR reviews criminal history and may deny the application.
- Endorsement experience
- W: 15 water wells; M: 50 monitor wells; N: 50 injection wells; D: 50 dewatering wells; C: 50 closed-loop geothermal wells. Master A requires all five endorsements (215 qualifying drillings). 16 TAC §76.21(d)-(e).
- Endorsement selection
- Select at least one W, M, N, D or C endorsement. Pass each examination corresponding to the endorsements requested; anyOf preserves the available endorsement choices and does not make all five mandatory. Prior passing of a currently offered exam remains part of this route; holding other endorsements does not require unnecessary retesting.
- Experience
- At least two years of relevant drilling experience under a licensed driller; document supervised work. 16 TAC §76.21(a).
- Score
- A passing grade is 70%; PSI eligibility is valid for one year from approval.
- Temporary
- Already meet every initial requirement, including the required examinations; submit the application and initial fees. TDLR may issue the temporary license. It ends when the initial license is received or after 21 days and is not renewable.
