Licenses, application pathways and examination requirements

Each license and applicant pathway has its own requirements and exemptions. Choosing practice questions does not determine your eligibility.

Associate Protection Professional (APP®)

Voluntary professional certification for entry-level security professionals.

Licensing authority: ASIS International · Application information

Initial by examination
Applicability
Current ASIS APP page adopts the linked handbook and Body of Knowledge. The handbook identifies its 4 August 2026 revision as superseding earlier handbooks; that revision date is not asserted as the credential, route, or examination version start date.
Conduct
The APP page requires no criminal conviction reflecting negatively on the profession, ASIS, or the program; the handbook explicitly identifies felony convictions. Applicants must agree to the ASIS certification code and program policies; no exemption from these requirements is inferred.
Eligibility
One or more years of related compensated security experience, or potential approval with six months when an approved related certification is held; full-time security-related experience is required, but the current handbook expressly says current employment is not required. No higher education degree is required for the one-year route. PCI and PSP holders may take APP if eligible; CPP holders may not take APP, and APP cannot be held concurrently with CPP.
