Licenses, application pathways and examination requirements

Each license and applicant pathway has its own requirements and exemptions. Choosing practice questions does not determine your eligibility.

SAFe Release Train Engineer

Individual advanced-level professional certification validating Release Train Engineer capabilities for Agile Release Trains.

Licensing authority: Scaled Agile, Inc.

Initial by examination
Account And Seat
A Studio account and course Learning Plan are required; the instructor must roster the learner and confirm attendance before launch; one license is required per attendee.
Assessment
Accept the Candidate Agreement and accurate personal registration, pay applicable fees, take the timed examination independently, closed book and without outside assistance. Pass the current 82% RTE exam for the individual certification; course attendance or practice-test passage does not award the certification.
Attempt Window
One first attempt included in the course registration fee within 60 days of completion, expiring at 11:59 PM in the account time zone. Extensions are unavailable; a retake purchase is required after the window expires. Purchased retakes expire after 60 days.
Course
Attend the entire related RTE course; current course is AI-Empowered SAFe Release Train Engineer. Familiarity with SAFe Agilist and SAFe Scrum Master roles is stated; no prior certificate or examination is established as a prerequisite. The course FAQ states there are no course prerequisites.
Language
English; complete the course in the same language as the examination.
Pathway Boundary
The general course-free proctored alternative lists SA, SP, SSM, POPM and AIN-F, not RTE; it is not an RTE alternative. Existing-holder AI-Native upgrade quizzes are outside this initial pathway and are not this examination.
Renewal
The current RTE page describes yearly certification renewal; a holder's renewal date is not the exam version's validThrough.
Retakes
$50 per retake; first retake immediately after first failure, second retake 10 days later, third and additional retakes after 30 days. A passed examination cannot be retaken under the Candidate Agreement.
