Licenses, application pathways and examination requirements
Each license and applicant pathway has its own requirements and exemptions. Choosing practice questions does not determine your eligibility.
Public Adjuster
Public Adjuster license, Adjuster Property and Casualty authority, for individuals and business entities. A public adjuster represents only the insured and does not adjust workers compensation claims. Resident, designated-home-state and reciprocal nonresident pathways belong to this license type. NRS 684A.060 emergency licenses concern insurer representatives; NRS 684A.150 temporary continuation licenses concern independent adjusters. The Division states that associate adjuster licenses ceased to be available January 1, 2020. Those forms are not additional current public-adjuster credentials.

Individual reinstatement after child support suspension
- Court suspension
- The existing license was suspended under NRS 684A.147 pursuant to a district-court support-enforcement order.
- Official compliance letter
- The Commissioner shall reinstate upon receiving the district attorney or other public agency letter stating compliance with the subpoena or warrant or satisfaction of the arrearage. NRS 684A.147(2) defines this restoration procedure and specifies no new licensing examination.
Official no-examination sources
Effective from 2026-09-22.
Reciprocal nonresident new licensure after disciplinary action
- Disciplinary cure
- Reinstatement is not available until a noncontinuing cause arising after license issuance has ceased or the fines under NRS 684A.240 or .250 have been fully paid, as NRS 684A.260 requires. The Commissioner decides eligibility; curing a cause does not itself promise reinstatement.
- During suspension
- Maintain applicable fees, including renewal fees, and required education throughout suspension under NRS 683A.461(5), applied to adjusters by NRS 684A.220.
- Entity applicant
- A business entity additionally retains the designated licensed adjuster under NRS 684A.080.
- Home state examination
- NRS 684A.100(1) requires having passed the home-state adjuster examination for its exemption. That other jurisdiction examination is a condition and never a Nevada requirement leaf. A DHS license is accepted from a state requiring examination; Nevada DHS applicants instead follow the Nevada examination route.
- Home state license
- Currently licensed and in good standing as a public adjuster for the same or similar authority in the actual or eligible designated home state; maintain that resident/home-state license. The home state awards reciprocal nonresident licenses to Nevada applicants.
- New application
- After curing statutory disciplinary impediments, qualify for issuance of a new reciprocal nonresident license; NRS 684A.100(1) depends on a current good-standing home-state license and home-state examination, not the disqualified prior-Nevada-license exemption.
- Nonresident application
- Submit the completed application and fees; appoint the Commissioner as process agent and agree to appear. If the home-state license terminates, surrender the Nevada license unless the statutory reciprocal change-of-home-state exception applies.
- Restoration boundary
- Restoration of the existing suspended license is distinguished from issuance of a new license after revocation. No new examination is stated in the restoration provisions; the separate relicensing pathways retain the issuance examination where required.

- Maintain applicable fees, including renewal fees, and required education throughout suspension under NRS 683A.461(5), applied to adjusters by NRS 684A.220.
- Entity qualifications
- Eligible to declare the applicable home state; designate a licensed natural-person adjuster authorized to transact business for the entity and responsible for Nevada insurance-law compliance. Identify members, officers, directors and specified owners in the uniform business entity application. Do not commit disqualifying acts; keep business within the partnership agreement or charter; notify the Division of changes to members, directors, officers and responsible licensees.
- New license application
- The prior-24-month examination exemption excludes a license revoked, suspended or refused continuation. Apply under NRS 684A.090 after the Commissioner finds the NRS 684A.260 impediments resolved.
- Other statutory exemptions
- The reciprocal-nonresident exemption remains available only if all statutory conditions are satisfied; that pathway is separate.
- Responsible licensee instructions
- The Division business-entity instructions state: Business Entities must: Designate an individual licensee responsible for the entity’s compliance with Nevada law. This individual is referred to as the “Designated Responsible Licensee” or DRL; Submit the fee for each association of the DRL; Never have committed any act that would be grounds for refusal, suspension, or revocation; Limit the scope of business to the stated purposes within the partnership agreement or charter, as applicable; and Notify the Division in writing of all changes of members, directors, officers, or DRLs. The Division encourages business entities to check with the Nevada Secretary of State for other requirements before conducting business in this state.
- Restoration boundary
- Restoration of the existing suspended license is distinguished from issuance of a new license after revocation. No new examination is stated in the restoration provisions; the separate relicensing pathways retain the issuance examination where required.
- Statutory examination reading
- NRS 684A.031 defines person as an individual or business entity. NRS 684A.100 requires each person intending to apply to personally take and pass the licensing examination unless one of its exemptions applies. The examination is retained on that statutory wording. The Division entity instructions specify an already licensed responsible individual, recorded as a condition rather than an implied statutory examination exemption.
Individual new licensure after revocation, suspension or refusal of continuation
- Applicant exemptions
- NRS 684A.100 and 684A.105 provide exemptions for qualified reciprocal nonresidents, qualifying prior Nevada licensees and applicants relocating within 90 days; separate exemption pathways below identify their conditions.
- Character and financial responsibility
- Competent, trustworthy, financially responsible and of good reputation; prohibited convictions and acts disqualify unless the Commissioner grants the good-cause waiver in NRS 684A.070(4). NRS 683A.451 identifies disqualifying acts.
- Contact and application
- Maintain a valid email address; submit the required uniform application, truthful supporting documentation and fees through Sircon or NIPR. Natural persons provide the required child-support statement and must comply with an applicable support order or approved repayment plan.
- Fingerprints
- A Nevada resident natural person provides fingerprints at personal expense and authorizes the background check. Division instructions require the fingerprint confirmation receipt with TCN and signed background waiver; the criminal-history report is valid for six months. The fingerprint authorization form requirement is effective August 1, 2025.
- License incompatibilities
- No concurrent independent, company or staff adjuster license; no concurrent property, casualty or surety producer or surplus-lines broker license except as a bail agent. No auto-body-repair business or controlling interest in an adjusting business entity for a person in that business.
- Minimum age
- At least 18 years old for an individual applicant (NRS 684A.070(1)(a)).
- New license application
- A new application after disciplinary action is distinct from restoration of an existing suspended license. NRS 684A.100(2) and .105(1)(b) expressly exclude revoked, suspended or refused-continuation licenses from the prior-24-month exemption.
- Other statutory exemptions
- A qualifying current home-state license/examination or timely relocation under NRS 684A.100(1) or .105(2) may excuse the applicant; those are applicant conditions. The registered Nevada examination is retained for this issuance route.
- Passing score and timing
- Pass the Property and Casualty Adjuster examination before applying; NAC 684A.300 requires 70 or more points. The handbook directs application within one year after passing.
- Prelicensure education
- NAC 684A.200 requires an approved course completed within two years before application. NAC 684A.220 requires at least five hours on Nevada insurance law and regulations and fifteen hours on insurance principles, the requested line, adjusting claims, ethics and governmental regulation. A correspondence or self-study course requires its monitored final examination under NAC 684A.215; that unidentified course assessment is an applicant condition, not an additional registered licensing examination.
- Public adjuster scope
- Employment by the policyholder; represents solely the financial interests of the insured, excluding workers compensation claims.
- Restoration boundary
- Restoration of the existing suspended license is distinguished from issuance of a new license after revocation. No new examination is stated in the restoration provisions; the separate relicensing pathways retain the issuance examination where required.

- Course requirement
- NAC 684A.200 requires an approved course for an applicant for an adjuster license; course-completion requirements remain conditions.
- Exam exemptions
- The statutory nonresident and qualifying prior-license exemptions in NRS 684A.100 apply when their conditions are met; those pathways are listed separately.
- Home state
- Eligible to declare Nevada as the home state, with a principal place of business or eligible home-state designation under NRS 684A.027.
The Division entity instructions specify an already licensed responsible individual, recorded as a condition rather than an implied statutory examination exemption.
Nonresident business entity reciprocity
- Entity home state
- The business entity holds the reciprocal home-state public-adjuster license in good standing and has a licensed responsible natural-person adjuster.

- A business entity also satisfies NRS 684A.080 and retains the licensed responsible individual; a natural person satisfies the applicable eligibility and child-support requirements.
- Expired license
- Reapply after the late-renewal period for a new nonresident license; the home-state examination and good-standing conditions support the NRS 684A.100(1) or .105(1)(a) exemption regardless of how long ago the Nevada license expired.

A correspondence/self-study/online course may involve a supervised final examination under NAC 684A.405; no particular additional licensing examination is identified.
- Late renewal window
- The Commissioner may accept renewal within 30 days of expiration. Pay 150 percent of the applicable renewal fee, excluding statutory administrative fees; provide the required support statement and continuing-education proof. NRS 684A.130(2)(c) expressly preserves the NRS 684A.105 examination exemptions.
- New application
- If more than 30 days have elapsed since expiration, submit a new license application and satisfy all remaining issuance requirements. The statutory examination exemption is preserved.
- Nonresident alternative
- A qualifying nonresident instead satisfies the home-state examination/license conditions in NRS 684A.105(1)(a), and home-state continuing education in NRS 684A.135(2).
- Prior nevada license
- Licensed in Nevada as the same adjuster type during the immediately preceding 24 months; the prior license must not have been revoked, suspended or refused continuation by the Commissioner. NRS 684A.100(2) and 684A.105(1)(b) exempt the applicant from the licensing examination.
- Renewal application and fees
- Renew through Sircon or NIPR, pay renewal fees and complete applicable requirements by the renewal date, the last day of the applicable third-anniversary month. A license not timely renewed expires; no authority to practice while expired.

Individual designating Nevada as home state
- Applicant exemptions
- Designated home state
- The applicant is not a Nevada resident and the actual home state does not issue the requested license type or line. Nevada may be designated only under the home-state conditions in NRS 684A.027. The Division and handbook require the same resident requirements, including examination and fingerprints; apply for the Adjuster DHS license through Sircon.
Nonresident individual reciprocity
- Character and financial responsibility
- Competent, trustworthy, financially responsible and of good reputation; prohibited convictions and acts disqualify unless the Commissioner grants the good-cause waiver in NRS 684A.070(4). NRS 683A.451 identifies disqualifying acts.
- Contact and application
- Maintain a valid email address; submit the required uniform application, truthful supporting documentation and fees through Sircon or NIPR. Natural persons provide the required child-support statement and must comply with an applicable support order or approved repayment plan.
- Nonresident application
- Submit the completed application and fees; appoint the Commissioner as process agent and agree to appear. If the home-state license terminates, surrender the Nevada license unless the statutory reciprocal change-of-home-state exception applies.
- Public adjuster scope
- Employment by the policyholder; represents solely the financial interests of the insured, excluding workers compensation claims.

- Education
- Meet the applicable prelicensure course requirements under NAC 684A.200 and .220; an examination exemption does not itself waive these rules.
- Fingerprints
- A Nevada resident natural person provides fingerprints at personal expense and authorizes the background check. Business entity renewal
- Child support statement
- A natural person provides the completed child-support statement required by NRS 684A.143 and satisfies the support-order or repayment-plan requirement.
- Individual requirements
- NRS 684A.135 continuing education and NRS 684A.143 child-support statements apply to natural persons. Entity renewal keeps the licensed responsible individual and the qualifications in NRS 684A.080.
- Prior license exemption
- The renewing business entity holds the same Nevada adjuster license within the immediately preceding 24 months and qualifies for the NRS 684A.100(2) exemption absent suspension, revocation or refusal of continuation.
- Renewal application and fees
- Renew through Sircon or NIPR, pay renewal fees and complete applicable requirements by the renewal date, the last day of the applicable third-anniversary month. A license not timely renewed expires; no authority to practice while expired.
