- Doctoral education
- Hold a Board-acceptable doctoral degree in psychology from a regionally accredited institution, or an acceptable foreign institution that would qualify for regional accreditation. Meet 201 KAR 26:200: at least three academic years of graduate study, at least one in residence with 250 contact hours, dissertation or equivalent, practicum coursework, core psychology areas and ethics, research/statistics, and psychometrics.
- Eppp score
- A scaled EPPP score of at least 500 is required, or the Board accepts a prior passing EPPP score that met the doctoral criterion when taken. The currently offered registered EPPP remains an examination involved in the route; an accepted previous score can excuse sitting it again.
- Grace period
- KRS 319.050(3) and 319.064(3) authorize a Board-established grace period not exceeding 180 days. The implementing rules 201 KAR 26:155 Section 4 and 26:280 Section 3 establish a 90-day maximum, immediate notice by the applicant and supervisor, and submission of materials within 30 days; practice must cease if approval is not achieved.
- Qualifying certificate
- Hold CPQ, a National Register of Health Service Providers certificate, or ABPP certification (or a recognized successor); have five years full-time independent practice or its equivalent and no licensure-board or ASPPB-recorded discipline. The Board deems these applicants qualified for reciprocity and awards HSP designation after the required state examinations. Certificates and certification requirements are conditions, not exams of this profession newly identified by Kentucky.
- Supervised experience
- Complete two years of Board-approved supervised professional experience under KRS 319.050: 3,600 hours under 201 KAR 26:190, including a 1,800-hour internship with 100 supervision hours and 1,800 additional supervised hours. Meet direct-service, supervision, and time requirements; the Board may approve an extension.
- Temporary conditions
- Request a temporary license cosigned by a Board-approved licensed psychologist with health service provider designation. The initial temporary term is one year; complete the examinations and credentials during that term, subject to approved extensions. Provide weekly individual face-to-face supervision and required supervision reports. Do not practice or supervise independently beyond the statutory and employment exceptions.
