NVIDIA-Certified Professional OpenUSD Development

Professional-level OpenUSD Development certification validating the ability to build, maintain, and optimize 3D content creation pipelines; passing the exam earns a digital badge and optional certificate, valid for two years from issuance.

Licensing authority: NVIDIA · Application information

Initial by examination
Account
A Certiverse account is required to access the examination.
Award
Passing this examination earns the level-and-topic-specific digital badge and optional certificate; the award is valid for two years from issuance.
Booking
Exams can be scheduled up to 60 days in advance. This is not a retirement boundary or a guarantee of future seats. Checkout inventory could not be inspected without an accessible portal body.
Cancellation
Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before the sitting. A rescheduled exam must be within two months of payment. Examinations within 24 hours are non-cancellable and non-refundable.
Prerequisites
{"anyOf":["Two to three years of experience working with the OpenUSD framework and Python or C++ programming","Completion of the study guide materials"],"skills":"The candidate should be able to create 3D content, solve technical problems, and use version control systems in collaborative environments; understand rendering systems; and be able to optimize performance."}
Registration
Use the dedicated Register for Exam link on NVIDIA's exam page; schedule and pay the published $200 examination fee, subject to applicable regional taxes.
Remote Testing
A secure browser, live remote proctoring and recording, multi-factor identity verification and a 360-degree environment assessment apply. A valid government-issued photo-and-signature ID must match registration; remote exams do not permit breaks.
Retakes
Failed attempts may be repurchased after a 14-day waiting period, with no more than five attempts in a 12-month period starting at the first purchase.
Scope
Initial acquisition of the Professional OpenUSD Development credential through its English online remotely proctored NCP-OUSD examination.

Examination outline
  • Composition (23%)
    • Change the strength of an opinion.
    • Choose an appropriate instancing style for data at different scales.
    • Compare between referencing, payloads, and sublayers, and identify their use cases.
    • Create a scene with multiple elements referencing the same animation at different time-offset.
    • Design potential scene layering strategies to facilitate multi-user workflows.
    • Explain LIVERPS in simple terms.
    • Identify situations where variants are/are not appropriate for structuring assets.
    • Identify why opinions from one layer do not take effect in a composed stage.
    • Prepare an internal asset to be delivered to external parties.
    • Remove properties from instanced component prims in an assembly stage.
    • Split a monolithic asset to model multiple collaborative workstreams.
  • Content Aggregation (10%)
    • Add a new prototype to a pointInstancer.
    • Edit the color of an instanceProxy mesh without changing its instancing status.
    • Hide instances of a pointInstancer efficiently.
    • Implement and manage USD instances for efficient asset reuse in large-scale scenes.
    • Remove properties from instanced component prims in an assembly stage.
  • Customizing USD (6%)
    • Build a USD plug-in against a given version of USD.
    • Build USD from scratch with custom dependencies.
    • Create custom model kinds when appropriate.
    • Create custom schemas for proprietary data models.
    • Integrate a custom resolver to manage asset paths dynamically.
    • Use USD schemas to support nonstandard attributes/structures during import/export.

    • Write an AssetResolver that generates in-memory renderable primitives.
  • Data Exchange (15%)
    • Convert OpenUSD assets to common 3D formats (such as glTF), and ensure fidelity.
    • Document conceptual mappings between USD and another data model (e.g., materialX).
