The massage-specific verification pathway applies when endorsement requirements cannot be met.
Fee Waivers
Statutory initial-application fee waiver applies at household income no greater than 200 percent of federal poverty guidelines. An eligible honorably or generally discharged service member has initial and one renewal fee waived within five years of discharge under section 272C.14.
Lawful Presence
Provide information for SAVE verification of citizenship/immigration status before license issuance or renewal under 2026 Iowa Acts chapter 1156, sections 19–21, effective July 1, 2026. DIAL says it cannot continue processing without the requested information.
Licensing Discretion
The Board may refuse licensure on statutory disciplinary grounds under Iowa Code section 147.4; disclose required criminal and disciplinary history.
Other License
Hold a license in this occupation with substantially similar scope, in good standing in all jurisdictions. The issuing jurisdiction must verify its education and applicable experience/supervision requirements were met.
Prior Examination
Section 272C.12(1)(d) requires the other jurisdiction’s licensing exam previously passed if applicable; it names no identifiable exam, so this is an applicant condition.
State Law Exam Authorization
Section 272C.12(3)(c) preserves state-law-examination authority; rules 501.1 and 821.5 do not exercise it by establishing a massage examination.
