Lead-Based Paint Abatement Supervisor Certification

Individual supervisor certification under NDAC Chapter 33.1-15-24.

Licensing authority: North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality · Application information

Certification based on a valid authorized State or Tribal program certification
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Application Evidence
Submit SFN 53478, evidence of valid supervisor certification and the training documents required by General Requirements item 1.
Existing Certification
Submit a valid lead-based paint supervisor certification or equivalent from a State or Tribal program authorized by EPA under subpart Q, under the incorporated 745.226(a)(1)(ii). This existing credential is an applicant condition; that alternative does not require the applicant to pass an examination.
Fee
$150 per discipline for three years, waived for public employees.
Transition Provision
The distinct transitional reciprocity provision substituted for 745.226(d)(2) applies only within six months of the rule effective date and is not a current route on September 22, 2026. The continuing route here is the unremoved 745.226(a)(1)(ii) alternative; it does not extend to EPA certification alone.
Recertification after expiration for more than three years
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Applicant Status
Applicant has previously held North Dakota supervisor certification, expired for more than three years; SFN 53478 item 1 requires copies of all full-course and refresher certificates.
Application Evidence
SFN 53478 requires an unaltered copy of original training certificates and course test results; do not send originals. Applicants expired more than three years must provide all full-course and refresher certificates.
Certification Term
North Dakota sets individual certifications at three years in NDAC 33.1-15-24-04(6)(a) and SFN 53478. The incorporated federal five-year proficiency-training provision does not change that state term.
Examination Boundary
745.226(e)(2) defines recertification by successful refresher training and its certificate; it does not require a repeat of the separate certification exam in 745.226(b)(1)(ii).
Fee
Submit $150 per discipline for three years, waived for public employees.
Refresher Training
Successfully complete the appropriate accredited supervisor refresher course and submit a valid copy of its completion certificate under incorporated 745.226(e)(2). The course test is a training condition, not a separately identified certification examination.
Training Delivery
In-person refresher training is accepted; Department-approved live remote learning using an application such as Teams or Zoom may be accepted.
