Insurance Producer License — Personal Lines

Narrower property and casualty authority for primarily noncommercial coverage sold to individuals and families under Section 500-35(a)(6).

Licensing authority: Illinois Department of Insurance · Application information

Addition of authority to an existing resident license

All of the following:

Age
At least 18 years old.
Application
File the Director's prescribed application with truthful, correct and complete statements, pay the applicable fee, and satisfy Section 500-30(a) fitness, rehabilitation and conviction standards.
Application timing
The Department instructs applicants to wait five days after passing; Part 3121.30(b) requires five business days for reported education documentation before application.
Bond
When placing insurance with an insurer without an agent contract, maintain the bond required by Section 500-130: $2,500 or 5% of the previous calendar year's brokered premiums, whichever is greater, with a $50,000 aggregate maximum.
Course assessment
An unnamed course-provider examination for self-study is an education condition; the course provisions identify no separately registered licensing examination.
Education
Before the licensing examination, complete 20 hours, including 7.5 classroom or webinar hours of the appropriate pre-licensing course and use it within one year. An accredited college degree in insurance or an applicable AAI, ARM, CIC, CRM or CPCU designation exempts pre-licensing education under Part 3119.45(a)(2), without exempting the licensing examination.
Exemption boundary
This examination pathway applies when the same-line prior-license exemption in Section 500-45 does not apply.
Existing license
Already holds an Illinois resident producer license and adds this line. Complete the applicable course and exams; the Department amends the license after receiving completion reports.
Timing
Pass the general and state examinations within 90 days of each other.
Resident reapplication after the revocation or denial waiting period
