Appointment
Before acting as an insurer agent, obtain the required insurer appointment.
Existing license
Hold a Mississippi producer license and submit a line-of-authority amendment with the $25 fee.
Life education
Life-only applicants are exempt from the 20-hour prelicensing requirement under 83-17-251(2)(h), effective July 1, 2024. Seeking Accident and Health as well requires its applicable education; education exemptions remain applicant conditions.

At least 18 years of age.

Renewal or restoration with military or medical hardship

At least one of the following alternatives:

Continuing education
For a license term of 18 months or less, complete 12 approved CE hours; for more than 18 months, complete 24 approved CE hours including three ethics hours. Statutory limited-line, nonresident, non-active and other CE exemptions are applicant conditions.
Examination discretion
83-17-39(1)(a) ordinarily exempts renewals, but permits the Commissioner to require the producer examination to establish competency. The examination stays in the requirement tree because it can be required.
Hardship
Military service or other extenuating circumstances, including long-term medical disability, permit a request for waiver of renewal procedures, examination requirement, fines or sanctions. A request is not an automatic waiver.
Renewal
Renew biennially by the last day of the birth month, pay the renewal fee, and meet applicable continuing education. Non-active status must be requested on each renewal and maintained with the fee.
Nonresident licensure by reciprocity
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Application
Submit the proper request, uniform or home-state application and fee. MID verifies the home-state license on the NAIC producer database.
Home license
Current resident license in good standing for the same or similar Life authority; home state must grant reciprocal nonresident licenses. The other jurisdiction license is an applicant condition.

Nonresident renewal
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Home license
Maintain home-state licensure and reciprocal eligibility; MID verifies it on the NAIC producer database.

No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Application
Submit the applicable Mississippi application and fees; prior licensure is an applicant condition.
Prior license
Previously licensed for the same authority; currently licensed there or application received within 90 days of cancellation. Certification or NAIC database must establish good standing at cancellation.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.

Reactivation of current non active license
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Current status
Maintain the license through renewal payments while non-active; do not sell, negotiate or solicit while non-active.
Reactivation
Residents complete required CE and notify MID in writing or by scanned email to change status to active.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.
