Licenses, application pathways and examination requirements

Each license and applicant pathway has its own requirements and exemptions. Choosing practice questions does not determine your eligibility.

RADAR Electronics Technician

Licensing authority: ETA® International

Initial by examination
Assessment
Pass the RAD knowledge examination at 75%; no hands-on requirement.
Award
Journeyman CET with RAD specialty option
Experience
A Journeyman should have two or more years of experience to qualify as a Journeyman CET.
Prerequisite Boundary
Prerequisite credentials are retained as eligibility conditions; their separate/shared examinations are outside this one-code task and are not registered or reproduced.
Prerequisite Certifications
{"anyOf":["Associate Certified Electronics Technician (CETa)","Electronics Modules (EM1-5)","General Communications Technician - Level 1 (GCT1), substituted for Communications Journeyman options"]}
Rollover
Outside this initial_by_examination route: valid FCC Element 8 plus CETa, GCT1 or Journeyman CET permits the published RAD rollover; it is not a new examination.
Scheduling
Arrange an appointment with an ETA Certification Administrator for Trapeza or paper/pencil; remote proctoring for non-hands-on exams requires ETA registration and setup through its registration form, suitable computer, webcam, microphone and at least 3MBPS internet. Initial scheduling takes up to 72 hours; registration Monday-Friday 8am-5pm EDT; same/next-day testing not guaranteed.
Stand Alone
General ETA Stand-Alone rules do not establish a RAD Stand-Alone option; both current RAD-specific tables classify RAD as Journeyman only. No additional examination or unsupported alternate award is created.
Validity
Four-year certification term with maintenance; no official start/end date for the credential program or this current route is published.
