Esthetician License
Indiana license for the practice of esthetics.
Licensing authority: Indiana State Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners · Application information
Initial licensure by examination
All of the following:
- Final Practical Demonstration Examination for Indiana Esthetician Applicants (assessment without a question bank)
- Indiana Esthetician Written Examination
- Application
- Submit a complete verified application, the $40 application fee, mandatory Social Security number, legal-name-change documents if applicable, and explanations and court documents for affirmative application answers.
- Board age demand
- The Esthetician Examination Application Instructions state: “Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.”
- Board deadline demand
- The Board licensing page states that graduates before July 1, 2013 must apply for a waiver of the three-year deadline if they missed it. 820 IAC 2-2-3 was repealed effective July 22, 2026; the Board’s still-published waiver instruction is recorded as an applicant-facing demand.
- Conduct
- Do not have committed an act supporting discipline under IC 25-8-14; disclose relevant convictions and their disposition.
- Esthetics education
- Graduate from an esthetics program in a licensed beauty culture school; Indiana requires 700 hours. The Board instructions also accept a Department of Labor registered apprenticeship certificate and apprentice number as education documentation; that implementing alternative does not erase the statute’s graduation and practical-demonstration requirements.
- General education
- Complete tenth grade or its equivalent.
- Passing score
- Pass the PSI written examination with 75% correct and supply the pass notice.
- Practical completion
- The school administers the final practical demonstration before graduation; at least 75% is required, and successful completion fulfills the practical licensing examination requirement.
