Each license and applicant pathway has its own requirements and exemptions. Choosing practice questions does not determine your eligibility.
ASE Automobile Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6) certification
ASE's voluntary Automobile A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems certification requires passing the A6 test and documented relevant experience.
Licensing authority: National Institute for AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE EXCELLENCE
Initial by examination
- Initial Test
- Initial certification test for applicants never certified in this specific test area; recertification is outside this route.
- Work Experience
- A1-A9 follows ASE's two-year full-time or part-time-equivalent Repair Technician standard. ASE also permits formal education or training credit under its published table and non-combination rules; matching I-CAR Platinum status or a valid Canadian provincial automotive trade certificate can satisfy the two-year standard. Qualifying Auto, M/H Truck, or Collision-Refinish instruction for four academic years or part-time equivalent, plus at least 20 hours of technical update training in the last 12 months, is a separate alternative that cannot be combined with hands-on experience or formal-education substitutions. Eligible military MOS experience and licensed repair-shop owner/operator work can count; home-garage repairs cannot. ASE may credit other experience in its judgment and reviews supporting documents before awarding certification; passing the test alone yields a score report until the experience requirement is met.
