Registered Telecommunications Project Manager® (RTPM®)
Individual professional certification in telecommunications project management.
Licensing authority: BICSI · Application information
Initial by examination
- Applicability
- The current official program page adopts this handbook; its scheduling section names RTPM-v2-2-2026. No official effective/retirement dates for the examination, route or credential were published. Null dates do not assert universal historical applicability; current adoption supports the fixed 2026-10-26 evaluation date.
- Application
- Eligibility must be met at submission. Submit the completed online application, current resume/CV and applicable qualification documents through BICSI Navigator, with the nonrefundable application fee. Allow 30 days for approval; BICSI does not preapprove experience before submission. Approved candidates receive an authorization letter with candidate ID, first-attempt voucher and scheduling instructions. Eligibility lasts one year from approval.
- Award
- Pass the single computer-based knowledge examination; the certificate and digital credential follow. No additional practical, oral, writing or inspection-plan examination is specified in the complete current initial-certification process.
- Definitions
- {"ictIndustryExperience":"Design or installation of technology pathways, spaces and infrastructure, including cabling and wireless systems supporting data transfer/signaling and interconnected communication, processing, display or information-gathering devices; includes audiovisual, telecom, safety/security, networking and building automation systems.","projectManagementExperience":"ICT initiation (review information, estimate budget, develop proposal, assemble deliverables), execution (administration, implementation, stakeholder communication) and closure."}
- Eligibility
- {"anyOf":[{"allOf":["One year of project management experience in ICT","Hold a current BICSI RCDD, DCDC, OSP, INSTC, INSTF or TECH certification"],"option":1},{"option":2,"requirement":"Two years of project management experience in ICT"},{"option":3,"requirement":"Three years of ICT industry experience, including one year managing or supervising ICT projects"},{"allOf":[{"anyOf":["Hold a current project management certification","Hold a project or construction management degree from an accredited US higher-education institution or foreign equivalent"]},"One year of ICT industry experience"],"option":4}]}
- Evidence Claim Ids
- ["rtpm-route-conditions-20261026","rtpm-registration-20261026"]
- Policies
- Applicable sanctions, exam guidelines, truthfulness, the BICSI Code of Ethics and Professional Obligations, and prohibitions on unauthorized materials, AI assistance and proxy testing apply. The initial application fee includes the first exam attempt. Failure entails retest fees and a 30-day waiting period; after the third failure a 90-day period applies, subject to valid eligibility. Expired eligibility requires a new application.
- Preparation
- The manual, 125+ hours of study, PM101/PM102/PM103 and study aid are suggested resources, not mandatory attendance in this current initial route. Existing certifications in option 1 are applicant qualifications, not additional exam sittings newly required by RTPM.
- Scheduling
- BICSI approval precedes a Pearson appointment. Supply matching legal name, candidate ID, sponsor BICSI, the approved RTPM-v2-2-2026 examination, preferred date/time/location and voucher. An unexpired original government-issued photo ID with signature and a secondary ID are required. Accommodation requests and supporting documentation must reach BICSI at least 30 days before the examination. English is the requested scope; the Japan chapter confirms English availability but does not establish US remote-testing entitlement.
