ASE Automobile & Light Truck Suspension and Steering Certification (A4)

ASE automobile and light truck technician certification in suspension and steering requires passing A4 and relevant repair-technician work experience.

Licensing authority: National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence · Application information

Initial by examination
Work Experience
The ordinary A1-A9 Repair Technician requirement is two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant experience, with ASE-recognized formal education or training credit where applicable. Canadian technicians may use a valid provincial automotive trade certificate as evidence satisfying the one- and two-year Repair Technician requirements. Alternatively, full-time teaching as an instructor, not a teaching assistant, in a high school or post-secondary Auto, M/H Truck, or Collision-Refinish program for four academic years (or part-time equivalent), plus at least 20 hours of technical update training in the last 12 months, satisfies the corresponding two-year requirement; this instructor method cannot be combined with traditional hands-on experience or formal education substitutions. The test may be taken before experience is fulfilled, but certification is withheld until it is fulfilled.
