Each license and applicant pathway has its own requirements and exemptions. Choosing practice questions does not determine your eligibility.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist
ASE advanced level certification earned by passing L4 and having relevant work experience approved.
Licensing authority: ASE
Initial by examination
- Applicability
- The live L4 page currently links this guide and Type 1 reference; guide p. 3 expressly adopts the reference and experience instructions. No official beginning or ending date is stated for this current initial certification route, so date boundaries are null rather than inferred from copyright or retrieval dates.
- Evidence Claim Ids
- ["l4-route-adoption-20261026","l4-route-conditions-20261026","l4-registration-20261026","l4-outline-20261026"]
- Experience
- Pass L4 and submit proof of three years of relevant hands-on Repair Technician work, full-time or part-time equivalent. Testing may precede experience; certification is withheld until experience is approved.
- Formal Training Alternatives
- For the three-year Repair Technician requirement: completion of an ASE-accredited Auto, M/H Truck or Collision-Refinish program gives one year credit; completion of an accredited OEM-sponsored co-op gives two years; passing at least three different ASE Entry-Level tests gives one year; other training earns one month credit per two full-time training months or 200 program hours, capped at one year. These alternatives cannot be combined. Accredited programs must be completed in full and accredited at completion; co-op participation includes its hands-on portion. Attach completion certificates, Entry-Level test certificates or an official transcript as applicable. Entry-Level tests here are an optional experience-credit qualification, not additional mandatory L4 examinations or production targets.
- Instructor Alternative
- Six years of qualified full-time teaching, or part-time equivalent, as an instructor rather than teaching assistant in a high-school or post-secondary Auto, M/H Truck or Collision-Refinish program, plus at least 20 hours of technical update training in the last 12 months. This alternative cannot be combined with hands-on experience or formal-education substitutions; attach a principal/dean letter on school letterhead and technical update training records.
- Other Experience
- Self-employment requires owner/operator work diagnosing and repairing in a licensed repair business and a current business license; home-garage repairs are not accepted. Military applicants may submit DD Form 2586, DD Form 214 or JST for evaluation. I-CAR Platinum and Canadian provincial trade-certificate provisions expressly satisfy one-/two-year categories, not an automatic L4 three-year waiver. ASE evaluates all substitution requests and other relevant experience.
- Registration
- Register and pay through myASE, then schedule and take the test within 90 days of purchase. The L4-specific FAQ confirms Prometric centers including satellite sites; generic remote-testing navigation is not treated as L4-specific availability. English knowledge examination only; an English-to-Spanish pop-up glossary does not create a separate Spanish examination.
- Scope
- Initial ASE L4 certification only. No L3 or other ASE professional test prerequisite is imposed by the current L4 page; no separate practical, oral or training examination is identified as mandatory for this certification.
